This year’s festivities will unfold across iconic cities, both familiar and new, both in the U.S. and internationally, highlighting the rich history and journey of this beloved event.
A Journey Through Time Reflecting on its humble beginnings, Sneaker Con first emerged in a small hallway of a comedy club in Times Square, New York, featuring just 20 vendors. Who could have predicted the transformation into the vibrant platform it is today, capable of hosting anywhere from 300 to 500 vendors, brands, and partners at each event? Sneaker Con has not only become a marketplace for enthusiasts to buy, sell, and trade sneakers, but also a community that nurtures the next generation of sneakerheads.
Innovative Services and Programs In 2013, the introduction of Sneaker Con Authenticated (LEGIT) marked a pivotal moment in the sneaker community, offering a free service designed to protect both buyers and sellers. This commitment to integrity continues today, supported by a partnership with eBay. That same year, Ace Of Customs was launched, providing a platform for talented artists, designers, and creators to showcase their work. Many featured customizers have transitioned from traditional jobs to thriving careers, with some now employed by leading sneaker brands like Nike, Jordan, and Adidas.
The Trading Pit, introduced in New York in 2014, was designed to give every sneaker enthusiast, regardless of collection size, an opportunity to engage in the sneaker community. Over the years, this space has witnessed countless stories of growth, as young collectors with a single pair of sneakers have blossomed into established vendors with extensive inventories.
A Platform for Creators Recognizing the power of digital media, Sneaker Con embraced the explosion of YouTube in 2015, transforming into a hub for content creators and influencers. This shift not only allowed creators to connect with sneaker culture and gain access to coveted products, but it also provided them a platform to build their brands and interact with their fanbases. The Sneaker Conversations main stage has evolved into an educational forum, enriching events with valuable insights and entertainment.
Sneaker Con Hoops In a thrilling expansion, Sneaker Con Hoops emerged, showcasing amateur basketball events that attracted thousands of spectators. By featuring notable influencers and hosting vibrant competitions, Sneaker Con not only bridged sneaker culture with sports but also sparked a resurgence of streetball content reminiscent of the iconic And1 mixtapes.
Global Expansion In 2017, Sneaker Con set its sights beyond the U.S., embarking on an international tour that began in London and soon expanded to cities like Canada, Hong Kong, and Australia. Over the years, the event has reached multiple cities in China, as well as Osaka, Japan, Singapore, Germany, and São Paulo, Brazil. The 2024 tour promises exciting stops in Japan, Mexico City, Seoul, and even more surprise locations.
Collaborations and Product Design Throughout its 15 years, Sneaker Con has collaborated with over 500 brands and designers, including industry heavyweights like Jeff Staple, Diamond Supply Co., A Bathing Ape, and Crocs.
